Mark Wilkinson

Mark is a seasoned leader with over 30 years of experience working across a number of areas within the water industry, from an agency employee with Essex and Suffolk Water in 1995 to the Head of Income and Wholesale at Northumbrian Water.

Mark’s initial work in the water sector was very customer-focused and included both customer billing complaints and cases where customers had either been adversely impacted or were struggling to pay.  A transition to the financial side of the water sector saw a shift in focus to processing payments, financial reconciliation, forecasting cash and debt levels, as well as pricing.  Mark has been extensively involved in the price review process overseeing and ensuring alignment between income forecasting and the water supply demand balance.  In his current role, Mark is responsible for overseeing the debt and billing back office teams, affordability and priority service teams, as well as the wholesale team.

Mark has chaired the Water UK industry billing and debt strategy network for more than 10 years, working closely with stakeholders and industry participants to develop policy, lobby regulators and government, and oversee benchmarking activities on best practices. In addition, Mark is a trustee of the Northumbrian Water pension scheme and a school governor
