John Vinson

John is an experienced director and commercial strategist with 25 years’ experience of working within regulated and non-regulated industries, both in the UK and abroad. Before joining the Consumer Council for Water as Head of Company Engagement, holding water companies to account for their operational and complaint performance on behalf of their customers, he was Commercial Director at Vortex IoT, taking the company to exit. Prior, he ran his own consultancy advising start-ups and SMEs, particularly in the innovation sector. John has worked with small businesses in the areas of water, sensors, air pollution, waste treatment, civil contracting, publishing, charities and retail. He has worked in all sectors of the water industry including wholesale, retail, NAV’s, private water service businesses, consumer advocacy and private consultancy. He has also served on the Interim Code Panel and Code Panel as well as several sub committees and groups. 

He is a director, trustee and holds a Ma in Business and the Financial Times Non-Executive Director Diploma. John is also a mentor for the SetSquared Partnership, (an enterprise collaboration between six leading research-intensive universities) and the Institute of Water mentoring scheme.
