Rick Hill

Rick has had a varied career in both the voluntary sector, film/tv industry and media regulation.

Rick worked full-time as a parish minister for 17 years. He left church work in 2007 to develop a portfolio career. 

Chairman of Northern Ireland Screen Commission 2008-2013, he took the lead role in developing digital content, supporting new programme and delivery formats in the film/tv sector. The gross value added generated by creative industries for the Northern Irish economy was £797m by 2013. Game of Thrones poured an estimated £250m into the region. 

Rick has also worked in Consumer advocacy. He was Chairman of the General Consumer Council for Northern Ireland (2008-2015), a member of Consumer Focus UK Board (2008-2014)and Chairman of the Scottish Government Consumer and Competition Working Group (2015).

Deputy Chairperson of the Independent Press Standards Organisation until 2020 he was a member of the team which created a new standards based self-regulatory model for press regulation in the UK.

Currently he is Communications Consumer Panel Chairperson and Northern Ireland Member.

As chair of one of Ofcom’s statutory committees, he engages in research and advocacy for consumers advising the regulator, DCMS and stakeholders across broadcast and communications markets. He chairs the Telecoms Industry Forum and the UK Communications Consumer Forum. He is also a current member of the Civil Aviation Authority Consumer Panel.

When not working he enjoys water sports; volunteering for rescue duty in his local sailing club; he is a keen sea-kayaker and expedition organiser.
