Today, MOSL has published its response to Ofwat's H2Open - open data in the water industry discussion paper.

We welcomed the opportunity to respond and share our views on how we might build on progress to date and why the experience of data in the non-household (NHH) market – since it opened in 2017 – haa key role to support our industry’s journey to open data.

As the market operator for the NHH water market in England and Wales, we are the custodians of a significant proportion of market data, and we therefore have a unique, national perspective on consumption. The NHH market has shown how the industry can work together on data and agree upon common principles and processes that enable data to be governed, improved and shared across the market.

While central market data is currently only accessible to licensed trading parties (i.e. wholesalers and retailers), we highlighted how we are increasingly taking an open first approach to aggregated data by making key statistics and performance indicators publicly available via dashboards on our website.

The ability to share data is dependent first on its quality and we outlined how we are laying the foundations for open data through our Core Market Data Improvement Plan where we have committed to exploring the provision of a central data cleanse and enrichment service.

Our work to deliver a NHH Market Data Strategy is also well underway and our draft Market Data and Information Charter outlines the actions we will undertake to support better customer choice through the improved use, better quality and sharing of data.

Collaboration is going to be key and we look forward to continuing to work with Ofwat, trading parties and the wider industry on the journey to open data.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss any of the points raised in our response. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
