Coinciding with World Water Day, MOSL has published its first Sustainability Report, one year on from sharing its first Sustainability Plan.
The report outlines MOSL’s progress against the four focus areas – People, Business, Community and Industry – and 12 sustainability commitments identified in the plan.
According to the 2023/24 report, MOSL met or exceeded almost all of our commitments, including establishing a Carbon Baseline and rolling out a comprehensive wellbeing programme across the company.
As the operator of the competitive retail water market, improving water security is a key sustainability objective for MOSL, so the team was delighted to be awarded the Waterwise Checkmark for Offices.
MOSL colleagues also had an excellent year raising money for its Charity of the Year, Naomi House and Jacksplace in Southampton, which supports terminally ill children and their families. Following a series of fundraising events, the team raised more than £5,000, more than double its original target of £2,000.
Lyvia Nabarro, Head of Market Engagement and Communications said: “Our people are passionate about working for a responsible business and driving positive change in our sector, community, and wider society.
“As a relatively small not-for-profit organisation, the Sustainability Plan has really helped us focus on where we can make a difference. Our first year has been a big learning curve, particularly in relation to baselining our carbon footprint, but we have made excellent progress.
“As an organisation working in the water sector, we take our commitment to water efficiency and climate change seriously – it’s important to us that we ‘practice what we preach’ and do what we can to reduce our water usage, even as just one of the tenants in our building.
“Our wellbeing activity has been a direct response to colleagues telling us what matters to them, from managing finances to back pain. I'm also delighted with the positive steps we have taken to support colleagues’ mental health, from managing stress to how to sleep better.
“This year, another 26 colleagues volunteered to take part in mental health training, and now 45% of colleagues have received mental health first aid training and are able to offer advice not only to colleagues but also to friends and family.
“I’m delighted with the progress we are making on all fronts. We are particularly proud of the money we have raised for Naomi House and Jacksplace; a charity everyone has really taken to their hearts. The money we have raised will pay for more than 200 hours of nursing care for the children and families that the charity supports.
“This first year has put in some solid foundations and we look forward to making an even bigger impact in the year ahead.”
The 2024/25 Sustainability Plan will be published in May 2024.
