As Georgia's internship comes to an end, we asked her to share her experiences of stepping into the water industry and into MOSL's in-house Legal Team.

Georgia

The world of water is not easy to navigate, especially for a second-year Law Student who has minimal practical legal experience and zero water industry experience, but I could not have wished for anyone better to teach me the ropes than MOSL and all its incredible employees.

Most of what I had learned through my degree was very theoretical, and I was intrigued to see in practice how my skills would be utilised to solve issues that enter the Legal inbox. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my degree came in handy while learning to draft contracts, draft data-sharing agreements, and write research reports on more complicated issues. When I initially started my internship at MOSL, with all the acronyms and water-talk, I didn't think I would be able to respond to complicated queries, but 12 weeks later, I’ve confidently responded to queries that I would never have believed I could when I first started. MOSL has increased my confidence in my own ability as a law student and as a professional, which is something I’ve always struggled with. I think it is safe to say none of these achievements would have been possible without the amazing Legal Team and the rest of MOSL. I am so grateful for all the support I’ve received.

MOSL’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere is something every business should endeavour to create. I felt valued as an intern from the moment I started, and I was given tasks immediately, allowing me to make the most of my work experience. The work MOSL undertakes is complex, and the acronyms can be a little baffling at first, but there was never any need to worry as everyone is on hand to jump in and explain things when they get a little complicated.

Although MOSL has given me a wealth of practical knowledge, what I value most about my experience is how it has taught me what I want from a workplace and in my career – flexibility, team spirit and a friendly and supportive environment. No question is ever a silly question, and not only does MOSL support you in your work life, but there are so many opportunities to personally develop and follow your interests and passions through groups like the Green Team and the Young Persons' Cohort. MOSL has a refreshing focus on employee mental health and maintains an open dialogue about it in the workplace, which creates trust among employees and strengthens the sense of togetherness.

My time at MOSL has exceeded my expectations; everyone constantly works towards the same goals, aligned with the same purpose and vision. We celebrate the successes together and support and collaborate when there is a need to iron out a bump in the road. There are so many people I extend my thanks to at MOSL, from the incredible Senior Leadership Team to the Legal Team, without whom I would not be where I am now, and to everyone else at MOSL who has made this such a rewarding journey. I have learnt so much from your expertise and my curiosity about the water sector continues to grow.

As a testimony to MOSL’s amazing culture and employees, I am very pleased to take up the offer to stay on part-time through my final year of study at the University of Southampton. I am so excited to continue learning and developing at MOSL and am eager to discover what the future holds.
