As an organisation at the heart of the water market, we are committed to integrating water stewardship by promoting water efficiency practices. We are excited to announce our partnership with Waterwise for the 'Come Rain or Shine' campaign. This week focuses on raising awareness and promoting innovative water efficiency and conservation solutions.

We're excited to share some of the innovations developed with the Market Improvement Fund and signpost existing water-smart technology identified by our metering improvement programme. Our collaboration with Waterwise underscores our dedication to making a real impact through education, advocacy, and the promotion of smart water solutions.

How this week aligns with our sustainability commitments

Our involvement in ‘Come Rain or Shine’ is not just about highlighting water challenges but is a clear demonstration of how we’re taking action to meet our sustainability commitments outlined in our 2024/25 Sustainability Plan:

  • 4.3 Advocating for environmental awareness and sustainable practices: The focus of the week ties directly into our ongoing commitment to environmental advocacy. We are driving home the importance of reducing water consumption and modelling responsible behaviour. Throughout the week, we will share actionable tips, best practices, and resources to help trading parties help their business customers to minimize their environmental impact.
  • 5.1 Working in Partnership: Our collaboration with Waterwise for this national campaign exemplifies our dedication to partnerships that amplify water conservation efforts. We have pledged to support Waterwise’s initiatives by using our independent platform to further their reach and impact.
  • 5.2 Promoting Water Efficiency: Encouraging both internal and external stakeholders to use water wisely is at the core of our activities this week. By promoting water efficiency and collaborating with like-minded organisations, we will empower our community to adopt sustainable water-saving practices.

The Week at a Glance
  •  Thursday: Pledge
This week, MOSL is proud to partner with Waterwise to highlight innovations and existing technologies that support water efficiency and conservation. We are committed to making a meaningful impact by educating and promoting innovation and smart solutions within the business water market.

       We pledge to:

  1. Champion smart metering – Advocate for the implementation of advanced smart metering technologies, enabling real-time tracking and reduction of water usage.
  2. Provide independent data insight – Offer data and insights on water efficiency, benchmarking trends to support individuals, businesses, and organizations in enhancing water efficiency practices.
  3. Support the RWG Water Innovation Roadmap – Collaborate to develop innovative strategies addressing current and future water challenges for sustainable water management.
  • Friday: Water use by new homes spotlight on championing smart metering
Imagine a world where water is scarce or unavailable. The cost to businesses and communities would be staggering.  This week we will advocate for technologies that help reduce water usage, ensuring everyone has access to this essential resource. As many developments are likely to occur in water-stressed areas, new builds must integrate smart meters and water-saving technologies from the planning stages. Our National Non-household Metering Strategy includes a detailed list of technologies on the market that can help reduce water consumption, eliminate waste, and mitigate leaks.
  •  Monday: Business water waste spotlight on Strategic Panel and Market Improvement Fund
The Strategic Panel has allocated £1.5 million to fund innovative projects to improve water efficiency in the business water market. For instance, Project Concordia, a collaboration between Wave Utilities and Infersens, reduces water waste by using technology that monitors water flow and temperature to eliminate unnecessary flushing. Find out more about this innovative solution and its impact.
  • Tuesday: Leakage and water loss spotlight on water efficiency solutions
Project REDUCED helps businesses choose the right water efficiency solutions. Sponsored by Wave Utilities and developed in partnership with Isle Utilities, this platform offers over 120 water-saving technologies. Companies can find tailored solutions that fit their needs and budgets. Find out more about Project REDUCED at the upcoming webinar.
  • Wednesday: Water Use In Schools spotlight on Project Discovery: Benchmarking Water Use
Project Discovery, sponsored by Anglian Water, helps businesses and public sector customers benchmark their water consumption. Businesses can reduce their water usage and bills by identifying whether they use more than expected. Businesses are encouraged to work with their retailers to utilize the Discovery platform and take actionable steps.

World Water Week

This week is also, coincidently, World Water Week, an annual event which highlights water cooperation for peace and security in its broadest sense. The theme this year is Bridging Borders: Water for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future. The event takes place in Stockholm, Sweden and asks us to recognise communities and nations' regional and global interconnectivity. It also recognises the regional and global interconnectivity of communities and nations and underscores the collaborative effort needed to achieve a peaceful and sustainable future.
