Water use benchmarking / Consumption awareness and benchmarking

Project status

Complete

Aim

Develop further knowledge of water use statistical distributions by customer characteristics to support the goal of increased customer segmentation. Recommend steps to support the benchmarking ambition where required (e.g. harmonisation of data sets from different wholesalers, data volumes needed, and external data sets needed). Advance leak detection practices by recommending a standard definition of a leak for use in granular consumption data analysis."

Project updates

The final report for Market Improvement Fund project 'Water use benchmarking' (previously referred to as 'Consumption awareness and benchmarking') has been published on the MOSL website.

One of the objectives of the project was to use granular trading party consumption data to explore ways to accurately forecast non-household demand for the six highest consuming Standard Industry Classification (SIC) divisions and examine the potential for water usage benchmarking.

In its recommendations, the report set out further areas of suggested work, including the focus on future benchmarking activities, the need for additional sector specific metrics, and customer size and water usage correlation tests using smart meter data.
